HOME
'Home' is a new series of environmental portraits by Australian artist, James Green. A visual anthropology of domestic settings, this body of work documents local artists and makers, and their personal narratives.
Inspired by creative spaces, Green is interested in personal environments as visual representations of people and place. Through sharing experiences with the people he captures, ‘Home’ has uncovered a sense of place in a town Green has visited for 20 years but never really seen.
Just as Green is seeing Toowoomba in new way, so to are these artists being viewed through a different lens. With in the intimate setting of the home, this series depicts a nakedness and rarity of capturing these individuals outside of what they do with in their arts practices.
From the spaces we inhabit to belongings we accumulate and the stories they hold, each image shares clues about their subject. Through this project, Green has found a place means nothing without getting to know its people.
